In Case You Were Wondering
-
Both of us have extensive photographic archives that span time and areas of the world, and we both think deeply about the subjects we are exploring. As each of us approaches an idea for a new book, we curate a set of images as if we were preparing for a gallery exhibition. From there we explore the best way to broaden the experience of the photography by combining them with the centuries-old tradition of book design. The main consideration is the book form. For example, a book about waves in the Atlantic, “Jenson Beach in Winter,” is a good match for a flag book form. It’s satisfying to make decisions for the physical parts in support of the subject matter: color and texture of the papers, color and style of the binding, size, type style and type placement etc. It is imperative to get the writing and sequencing just right so that the “story” of the book is fully supported.
Essentially a book is a manual time-based work of art. We are grateful to work with one another and share in the creation of these works of art.

Archival materials, also known as museum-quality materials, ensure that a work is stable, durable, and can last for a long time without degrading. For instance, we use acid-free paper boards and cloth, stable archival-quality inks and adhesives.
